USD-379 school board members directed staff to seek bids on pole vault and high jump mats and a new scoreboard for Otto Unruh stadium after hearing what bad shape this equipment is in Monday night.

Pole vault mats are estimated to cost $10,000 to $11,000; high jump mats, $4,000 to $5,000; and a score board, $8,000 to $9,000. All of these items are more than what either school at Clay Center or Wakefield could absorb out of their athletics budget, CCCHS athletic director Bud Young said.

Flo Rida’s hit record ‘Club Can’t Handle Me ft. David Guetta’ tells of an unforgettable night out, but the rapper knows that there’s more to life than partying.

It may be hard to believe, but the man who made “apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur” part of our cultural lexicon is far more concerned with philanthropy than he is with what women wear to the club. The rapper’s foundation, Big Dreams for Kids, works to provide support for kids in need, offering everything from toys to turkeys to the less fortunate during the holiday season.

“Growing up as a little kid in the projects, I had different celebrities come out, and talk to the kids, and I was one of them, and it just was instilled in me that if you dream big, it’s not where you’re from, it’s how you represent,” he told PopEater.

Cleveland, which has been losing manufacturing jobs for decades, has spent almost $1 billion on everything from new downtown sports stadiums to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in an attempt to rev up its economy, so far with mixed success. Next up: health care. In January construction will start on a $465 million Medical Mart & Convention Center targeted at manufacturers of health-care equipment and supplies.

Besides offering space to showcase and market high-tech medical equipment, project backers hope visitors will also want to see new gear in action at the nearby Cleveland Clinic, one of the country’s top medical centers. The broader aim: to rebrand Cleveland as a health-care hub that will attract well-paying industry jobs to the region. “High-tech medical, biotech, that’s going to be the new face of the community,” says Timothy F. Hagan, a Cuyahoga County commissioner who championed the project.

To get there, the county is teaming with a unit of Vornado Realty Trust to redevelop the space underneath the 14-acre Cleveland Mall, a public square overlooking Lake Erie. Under the terms of the deal, the public would pay the entire $465 million construction budget and subsidize Vornado’s operating expenses. The planned 422,000-square-foot exhibition center will be funded mainly with a quarter-cent sales tax increase.

All told, taxpayers may put as much as $840 million into the development, including debt costs over 20 years, says Tim Offtermatt, senior vice-president at Stifel Nicolaus (SF), the investment bank managing a county bond offering for the project. Vornado is contributing $28.5 million, Offtermatt says. It also is responsible for cost, repair, and operating overruns, he says.

MONTEBELLO – They sneak up on business owners when they least expect it.

Sometimes they scope out the bathroom. Other times they drive by and assess the parking lot. Their methods may vary, but these serial litigants have one thing in common – they’re on the lookout for ADA violations.

It might be a light switch that’s three inches too high or a door that’s too narrow. But rest assured, whatever it is – they’ll find it.

And each violation will cost a business owner $4,000, even if it doesn’t deter access for the disabled in any way. In recent years, scores of Southern California businesses have fallen prey to “shakedown” lawsuits over noncompliance issues associated with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Black Friday – the day after the Thanksgiving public holiday – is traditionally the start of the Christmas shopping season.

Consumers are spending in an uncertain environment as fears about the health of the US economy persist. Thousands of people queued late in the hope of being the first to find a bargain, with many shops offering deep discounts on clothing, electronic goods and toys. Several chains opened even earlier than the typical midnight start. Children’s retailer Toys R Us threw open its doors at 10pm for the first time. Others stayed open after trading on Thanksgiving itself.

“Judging from the excitement at Toys R Us at 10pm [on Thursday] and throughout the evening, the shopper is back,” Toys R Us chief executive Jerry Storch told Reuters.

Department store Macy’s said it had 7,000 shoppers outside its flagship Herald Square store in Manhattan in the early hours of the sale, some 2,000 more than last year. about 70% of total economic output.

“This is shaping up to be one of the biggest Black Fridays we’ve seen,” said David Bassuk, managing director at consulting firm Alix Partners.

Black Friday is so named because it is the day of the year when retailers traditionally hope to leave the “red” and enter the “black”, breaking even or making a profit.

Made in Michigan company, Secure Beginnings , shows FOX 2 their Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress , a mattress that delivers a safe, sanitary substitute for traditional crib mattresses that provide better night sleeps for babies.

Benefits of the Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress:

A safer sleep surface
The Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress sleep surface for babies is constructed using “open weave” knitted spacer fabric that allows gases and liquids to pass through the crib mattress’ sleep surface without accumulating on the surface of the crib mattress. The breathability of the crib mattress’ surface is designed to reduce re-breathing of harmful levels of CO2.

A drier sleep surface
The breathable crib mattress surface incorporates wicking yarns to help transport fluid away by capillary action. Fabrics knitted with wicking fibers have drying rates as much as 50% faster than cotton. This means infants/babies will NOT be lying in expelled liquids for long periods of time.

Easy to change cover
This revolutionary design in crib mattresses offers a convenient lift and release system to remove the cover or sleep surface allowing for quick changing and easy laundering. No more lifting heavy crib mattress corners or prying sheets from between crib bars.

Toxin-free mattress
The Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress for babies offers a sleep surface for infants/babies that is entirely free of all fire retardant chemicals while meeting the strict flammability requirements of the Consumer Products Safety Commission (C.P.S.C.) and the California’s flammability standards, Technical Bulletin 117 (TB 117).

A cleaner sleep environment
The Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress for babies offers a hygienically superior sleeping environment for babies when compared to a conventional or organic crib mattresses. Unlike traditional and organic crib mattresses, the Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress does not contain any filler material to trap mold and microorganisms. The improved sanitary conditions for babies are achieved by regularly laundering the removable crib mattress/sleep surface for babies in a conventional wash machine and dryer.

A more comfortable sleep
Unlike traditional crib mattresses, the Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress does not contain fillers or require a vinyl surface thus reducing the build up of excessive heat next to baby. A heat stable environment is safer and more comfortable for your baby.

Reduced pressure points
The Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress is designed to reduce the positional pressure placed on the baby’s skull. Flattening of the back of a baby’s head has been attributed to excessive amounts of time a baby spends lying on its back on a firm surface such as a traditional crib mattress.

Almost all teenagers (nine out of ten) suffer from outbreaks of pimples, making acne one of the most common skin disorders. It starts when tiny hair follicles become plugged with oily secretions from the skin’s sebaceous glands.

Blackheads appear as small, usually flat spots with centers darkened by exposure to air; whiteheads are similar lesions without the color. Both types of pimples can develop into swollen, tender inflammations. Cysts, or nodules, associated with severe cases of acne, are firm swellings below the skin’s surface that become inflamed and sometimes infected.

The champagne, perfume and luxury goods empire LVMH is snapping up a 17% stake in Hermès International, the 173-year-old Parisian purveyor of handbags and silk scarves that has enjoyed a roaring trade from ultra-wealthy shoppers seemingly immune to the recession.

LVMH described the €1.45bn (£1.29bn) stake, disclosed on Saturday, as a strategic holding in “one of the jewels of the luxury industry” and moved to squash speculation swirling around the markets in recent weeks that it aims to buy Hermès outright: “LVMH has no intention of launching a tender offer, taking control of Hermès nor seeking board representation.”

Run by billionaire Bernard Arnault, LVMH owns brands ranging from Moët champagne and Hennessy cognac to fashion labels Marc Jacobs and Donna Karan. Traders speculated earlier this month that the group might offload its alcohol arm to Britain’s Diageo in order to raise money for a move on Hermès, although this was firmly denied by LVMH.

Hermès, which is under the majority ownership of its founding Dumas family, has bucked the economic downturn, chalking up a 20% surge in sales during the first half of 2010, aided by strong sales in Asia, particularly to China’s emerging class of affluent fashionistas.

The luxury goods industry as a whole has benefited from a flight to quality during the credit crunch. Arnault remarked earlier this year that nouveau riche “bling” was out of fashion and that shoppers wanted authentic, enduring brands.
