Life insurance policies can be complicated at best, unintelligible at worst. A lot of people don’t pay much attention to them because they get free or low-cost coverage through their employer. However, it is still advisable to get your own insurance to be on the safe side. To get one started, it would be important to know the two basic types of life insurance: Term and Whole
A useful analogy to explain the difference is buying versus renting. With term life insurance, you’re renting. It’s never really yours, and eventually your lease is up.
In contrast, you own a whole life insurance policy, because the original policy amount must be returned to you. The monthly premiums are higher, but the money goes into a fund that grows over time.
Bootcamp is one of the six different free student-led aerobics classes offered to Wellesley students. The other classes offered are spinning, fit box, pilates, yoga and power abs. Katie Saylor ’10, Wellesley’s Recreation Coordinator, says “My motto for the classes is: no sign ups, no commitment, no experience required.” And Bootcamp is no exception.
Students meet at the pool tables at the entrance to the Sports Center at 8:15 a.m. Monday mornings before being led by instructor, Jenny Holland ’11 into the field house. After a couple of warm up laps and dynamic stretching, Holland dives right in. The class begins with alternating planks and wall sits—each held for 30 seconds. When the mat became available, the class moves to the mat and begins circuits. One circuit consists often of mountain climbers, ten push-ups, 15 full sit-ups and 15 squats. The challenge is to see how many circuits each student can complete in 10 minutes. All students usually finish at least five circuits in the allotted time. Holland keeps students on their feet and moves straight into burpees. For those unfamiliar with a burpee, a student begins in a push up position, moves her feet towards her hands, jumps up and then returns to the original push-up position. On Monday’s class this particular exercise only included half-burpees. Every thirty seconds the number of half-burpees done in a row increased by one until each student was doing 10 in a row. The group then decreased by one every 30 seconds until they reached one. In between, students tried to hold the push up position using upper body and core strength.
Holland ended the lesson with ab workouts and stretches. Before leaving, she told students to continue stretching and that they might feel sore for the next day or two. Throughout the entire lesson, she demonstrated the correct way to execute each exercise, shouted encouragement and instructions, and blasted upbeat music. When asked about the most challenging aspect of her job, she said: “trying to find a balance between pushing people enough that they actually get something out of it, and not pushing them so much that they feel uncomfortable and don’t want to come back.” According to her students, she has definitely achieved that balance. All left feeling that they had had a thorough workout and most planned to return. Susan Goldman ’11 said that she “plan[s] on going every Monday and Wednesday.” The students came from all different backgrounds of fitness but each left feeling as though she had had a good workout and planned to come back. Goldman said that she tries to work out on her own but often lacks the motivation. Alex Curatolo ’12 said, “I like working out with other people for motivation.”
For Holland, “the most rewarding thing has been meeting a ton of new Wellesley students—I love when people I just met come up to me the next day and tell me that they’re sore but can’t wait to come back!”

The search is on for a new chief financial officer at Orexigen Therapeutics.
The La Jolla drugmaker said Thursday that its current CFO, Graham Cooper, will step down “for personal reasons” on March 11.
Orexigen is one of two San Diego companies whose experimental diet pills for women were rejected by the Food and Drug Administration in recent months.
The other company, Arena Pharmaceuticals, announced a week ago that its CFO was leaving for a job with another healthcare company.
Both Orexigen and Arena face uncertainty over the future of their leading drug candidates, which must undergo further testing before being resubmitted to regulators. Each of the companies recently laid off a larger portion of their workforces in an effort to conserve cash in the wake of the disappointing FDA decisions.
Cooper, who became Orexigen’s CFO in May 2006, commutes to his office in La Jolla from his home in the Bay Area, the company said.
As part of a separation agreement with Orexigen, Cooper will receive a severance payment equal to nine months of his base annual salary, which is $340,000. The company also will continue to pay his health insurance premiums for up to nine months after he quits.
Joseph Hagen, Orexigen’s senior vice president for corporate development, strategy and communications, will assume the CFO job temporarily while the company searches for a permanent replacement.

Dunn County (WQOW) – The former director of a respected non-profit has been charged with a felony. He’s accused of ringing up inappropriate charges on the organization’s credit card. Those charges range from airline tickets to male enhancement products. He was charged with felony theft on Tuesday.
For years, when someone spoke of the West Wisconsin Land Trust, the focus was on the work the non-profit was doing to slow the loss of the state’s natural character: wetlands, forests and farmland. Right now, the focus is on the loss of tens of thousands of dollars in taxpayer money. A criminal complaint filed on Tuesday spells out where investigators believe that money went.
Rick Gauger was the executive director for the land trust for more than 10 years. He’s accused of making a large number of inappropriate charges to a corporate credit card.
Investigators say credit card statements show he purchased nutritional supplements and male enhancement products. Investigators also say when they asked Gauger about spending more than $13,000 on health products, Gauger said those products were used to combat burn out that is so common within the non-profit administrator ranks. He also said he made those products available to his entire staff.
He’s accused of using the corporate credit card to buy airline tickets on the front and back end of a bike ride across America he participated in. Court documents show a $1,600 stay at a hotel in Hilton Head, South Carolina was included on that trip. A co-worker, the associate director of the land trust, was also flown out to attend festivities surrounding the bike ride event.
Law enforcement believes he made more than $66,000 in charges unrelated to the land trust over a period of three years. He was fired last July.
According to the criminal complaint, Gauger has already paid back $25,000 to $30,000. He was scheduled to make his first appearance in court Tuesday on that theft charge. The associate director resigned last August. No charges have been filed against her.

IN THE GYM
1. Catch the running bug. You’ll continue to burn fat after your jog: People who run for at least four hours a week melt more calories than non-runners, even when they’re not running, a Yale University School of Medicine study reports.
2. Crank it up early. Working out harder during the first half of your workout and taking it easier during the second burns up to 23 percent more fat than doing the opposite, according to a study from The College of New Jersey.
3 & 4. Go hard — and make it quick. Staying at 80 percent of your max heart rate for 40 minutes can amp your metabolism for 19 hours afterward, research published in Obesity notes. And doing a shorter workout at 75 percent of your max aerobic capacity will give you a greater metabolic boost than sweating longer at 50 percent, a Colorado State University reveals.

Here are some ways on how to preserve your cigars. Have a look at it…
Seal well: Humidors are ideal to store cigars, but if you do not have one, make sure that you keep them in a sealed plastic bag. Excess air or moisture can spoil your cigar.
Save from sun: Avoid placing your cigars in direct sunlight. If the temperature and humidity get too high, cigars can develop a potentially damaging fungus or mold. Ideal conditions are 70°F (21°C) and 70% humidity.
Do not freeze: Do not keep your cigars in the refrigerator as it will suck out the moisture content of your sticks.
Position wise: Place your cigars in a horizontal fashion. This ensures minimum air damage.
Package well: Remove the tubes before placing the cigars in the humidors. The tubes are ideal for protecting cigars when you travel, be it in your pocket, briefcase or luggage.
