Here’s a high-quality front-row video of TQ‘s live performance in Manila shot recently at the Then & Now: Massive Music Festival in SM Mall of Asia.

I was one of the lucky ones who received an all-access pass from Divan Media, the event organizers. Met a lot of cool people and was able to hang out with several bloggers. It really was a fun night, despite the long performances (the whole concert lasted for around 4 hours!) and the faulty sound system. It was my first time to be backstage and front row of an event, epic. I think I’ll probably post the photos on my other blog. <3

First things first: Kick Ass is not for the faint-hearted, i.e., your grandmother, your school principal, your 43-year old unmarried aunt, or any person who would scream “susmaryosep” and/or faints at the sight of an eleven y/o girl with a balisong and says “motherf**ker” like there’s no tomorrow.

I swear, this movie will make Santino cry.

Based on a comic-book series of the same title, Kick Ass introduces us to Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a typical high school student who yearns for bigger things, like, you know, maybe become a real-life superhero? Donned in a hilarious customized wetsuit ordered online, he then begins his quest for extraordinary by polishing superhero moves (macho pose, tag-lines, kung-fu kicks, building to building jumps, etc) at day and patrolling the streets at night. All his efforts seem futile until an accidental thug encounter single-handedly changed his status overnight and further lead him to the dangerous world of father-daughter tandem Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz).

I’m impressed by how Kick Ass successfully laid out a superhero narrative minus the damsel-in-distress element. Instead, it gives a dose of laugh-out-loud lines and stunning action sequences that makes the audience go *clap clap clap* and *woohooo* on their seats. However, I would have loved to know more about Big Daddy since he clearly has a lot of story to tell. Nicolas Cage is one of my favorite actors and I trust that he could give much depth into the character. Nonetheless, I still find Kick Ass fairly entertaining. It’s like Superbad mixed with Kill Bill, equally funny but less gory. Also, watch out for Hit Girl. She totally kicks ass! <3
